Mormon History: The Book of Mormon - LDS

Mormon History: The Book of Mormon - LDSMormon History: The Book of Mormon - LDSMormon History: The Book of Mormon - LDS

This is a video describing how to learn more about the Mormon Church. "The Book of Mormon is true, just what it purports to be, and for this testimony I expect to give an account in the day of judgement." (Encyclopedia, 86-87) -Joseph Smith, Jr. The Book of Mormon is a volume of holy scripture comparable to the Bible. It is a record of God's dealings with the ancient inhabitants of the Americas and contains, as does the Bible, the fulness of the everlasting gospel. The crowning event recorded in the Book of Mormon is the personal ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ among the Nephites soon after his resurrection. It puts forth the doctrines of the gospel outlines the plan of salvation, and tells men what they must do to gain peace in this life and eternal salvation in the life to come. We invite all people everywhere to read the Book of Mormon, to ponder in their hearts the message it contains, and then to ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if the book is true. Those who pursue this course and ask in faith will gain a testimony of its truth and divinity by the power of the Holy Ghost. Those who gain this divine witness from the Holy Spirit will also come to know by the same power that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world, that Joseph Smith is his revelator and prophet in these last days, and that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the Lord's kingdom once again established on the earth, prepratory to the second coming of the Messiah. Mormon History: Martyrdom of Joseph Smith - LDS

Mormon History: Martyrdom of Joseph Smith - LDSMormon History: Martyrdom of Joseph Smith - LDSMormon History: Martyrdom of Joseph Smith - LDS

http://JosephSmithMormon.com has articles and details about the life of the prophet Joseph Smith. 164 years ago the Prophet Joseph Smith was martyred. Newspaper Headlines at the time screamed: "Thus ENDS Mormonism." Nevertheless, the work of God has continued to roll forward to fill the earth. This was a critical chapter in Mormon history. On June 27, 1844, at about 5 o'clock in the afternoon, Joseph Smith and his brother Hyrum were assassinated by enemies of the Church in the county jail at Carthage, Illinois. John Taylor, severely wounded at the same time, later called the Smith brothers "martyrs of religion" and declared that the Restoration of the gospel had "cost the best blood of the nineteenth century." These faithful souls personified the Savior's teaching: "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." "God is my friend," wrote Joseph Smith to his wife in 1832. "In him I shall find comfort. I have given my life into his hands. I am prepared to go at his call. I desire to be with Christ. I count not my life dear to me, only to do his will." Days before his death in 1844, the Prophet reiterated: "I am ready to be offered a sacrifice for this people." Leaving Nauvoo for Carthage, Joseph said, "I have a conscience void of offense towards God, and towards all men." The Prophet humbly acknowledged, "I am a lover of the cause of Christ." Do you wonder if Joseph Smith was a Prophet of God? Look around you and see prophesy being fulfilled. Faithful Latter-day Saints have looked and now invite family, friends, and near neighbors to embrace the joy of the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ. "Persecution has not stopped the progress of truth, but has only added fuel to the flame, it has spread with increasing rapidity. Proud of the cause which they have espoused, and conscious of our innocence, and of the truth of their system, 'midst calumny and reproach, have the Elders of this Church gone forth, and planted the Gospel...it has penetrated our cities, it has spread over our villages, and has caused thousands of our intelligent, noble, and patriotic citizens to obey its divine mandates, and be governed by its sacred truths...there are numbers now joining in every land. Our missionaries are going forth to different nations, and in Germany, Palestine, New Holland, Australia, the East Indies, and other places, the Standard of Truth has been erected; no unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing; persecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calumny may defame, but the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly, and independent, till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country, and sounded in every ear, till the purposes of God shall be accomplished, and the Great Jehovah shall say the work is done. Respectfully, Joseph Smith, Jr." Video produced by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

http://JosephSmithMormon.com has articles and details about the life of the prophet Joseph Smith. Parley P. Pratt, a member of the early Mormon Church, was unjustly imprisoned with the prophet Joseph Smith one night in the Richmond Jail. As guards in "dreadful blasphemies and filthy language" boasted of their participation in the Saints' persecution, Joseph rebuked them in the name of Jesus Christ in a "voice of thunder": "SILENCE, ye fiends of the infernal pit. ... Cease such talk, or you or I die THIS INSTANT!" The "quailing guards ... begged his pardon." Parley wrote, "Dignity and majesty have I seen but once, as it stood in chains, at midnight, in a dungeon in an obscure village of Missouri." LDS (Mormon) History: Joseph Smith First Vision - Part 2

LDS (Mormon) History: Joseph Smith First Vision - Part 2LDS (Mormon) History: Joseph Smith First Vision - Part 2LDS (Mormon) History: Joseph Smith First Vision - Part 2

http://JosephSmithMormon.com has articles and details about the life of the prophet Joseph Smith. On a spring day in 1820 14-year-old Joseph Smith sought solitude in a grove of trees and prayed to know which church was true. God the Father and Jesus Christ, "two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description," appeared and spoke with him. This was a critical chapter in Mormon history. Wondering which of the many churches to join, Joseph had followed the counsel in the Bible's book of James: "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God." The Lord told Joseph "that all the religious denominations were believing in incorrect doctrines" and that he was to await further instructions from on high. "In a state of calmness and peace indescribable," Joseph left that sacred grove knowing the reality of our Father in Heaven and His resurrected Son, Jesus Christ. Joseph Smith's first vision stands today as the greatest event in world history since the birth, ministry, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. After centuries of darkness, the Lord opened the heavens to reveal His word and restore His Church through His chosen prophet. Joseph Smith saw God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, not once, but innumerable times throughout his life. He translated the Book of Mormon, organized the true Church of Jesus Christ upon the earth once more and restored the plain and precious truths which were lost due to the apostasy of men. He lived great and he died great in the eyes of God! Video produced by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Mormon History: Nauvoo - LDS

Mormon History: Nauvoo - LDSMormon History: Nauvoo - LDSMormon History: Nauvoo - LDS

This is a video describing how to learn more about the Mormon Church. When members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon Church) were driven out of Missouri and Kirtland they traveled to Illinois where the settled in Commerce, renamed Nauvoo by the Mormons. They drained the swamps and established a beautiful city which swelled to a population of 20,000 by 1846. While in Nauvoo, hundreds of Mormon missionaries were sent on missions to the United States, England, and the Pacific Isles. Many thousands who joined the Church traveled to unite themselves with the Saints in Nauvoo. Only 15 months after founding Nauvoo Joseph Smith announced that it was time "to erect a house of prayer, a house of order, a house for the worship of our God, where the ordinances can be attended to agreeable to His divine will." Men donated each tenth day to work on the Mormon temple. Members sacrificed personal belongings to fund the project. For six years members of the Mormon Church "lived in relative peace, secure in the fact that a prophet walked and labored among them." But as Mormon history repeats itself this peace was short-lived as Nauvoo was seen as a political and economic threat by neighboring communities. Joseph Smith, his brother Hyrum, and other Church leaders were jailed in Carthage Jail. On 27 June 1844 a mob stormed the jail and Joseph Smith and Hyrum were killed. Thousands of Saints lined the street to mourn the loss of their prophet. Illinois Governor Thomas Ford wrote of the martyrdom: "The murder of the Smiths, instead of putting an end to ... the Mormons and dispersing them, as many believed it would, only bound them together closer than ever, gave them new confidence in their faith."
